What You'll Pay and How We Quote

Parquet restoration is quoted once we have seen the floor, because every old parquet floor is different. The price depends on the size of the floor, how many blocks are loose or missing, what is on the surface now and the finish you want. We tell you honestly whether the floor is worth restoring before you spend anything.

We come out to you, measure up, look at what is underneath and give you a free quote before anything is ordered or started. There is no call-out fee for the visit.

What the Work Covers

Many older homes have parquet hidden under carpet, lino or layers of dark varnish, and it can usually be saved. We re-fix loose blocks, replace missing or broken ones where matching blocks can be found, then sand the floor back to clean wood and refinish it. The original pattern stays, and so does the character that makes an old parquet floor worth keeping.

  • Taking up old carpet and underlay first
  • Re-fixing loose and lifting blocks
  • Replacing missing or broken blocks
  • Sanding across the pattern to a flat finish
  • Filling gaps between blocks
  • Lacquer, oil or hardwax oil finishes

Usually. Even floors with loose or missing blocks can often be restored. We look at the floor, check how many blocks need attention and tell you honestly whether restoring it makes sense.
Old adhesive breaks down over time, and damp or movement in the subfloor can lift blocks. We look for the cause where we can and re-fix the blocks before sanding.
It will look clean and freshly finished, but it is still an old floor, and a few marks and variations in the wood are part of its character.
The blocks run in different directions, so parquet is sanded in stages with finer and finer grits to get a flat, even surface without scratches showing across the grain.
