Herringbone and Parquet Installation in Swindon

What You'll Pay and How We Quote

Herringbone and parquet are quoted individually, because they take longer than a plank floor and every room is different. The price depends on the size and shape of the room, the blocks you choose, how many cuts the layout needs and how much preparation the subfloor needs to be flat enough for small blocks.

We come out to you, measure up, look at what is underneath and give you a free quote before anything is ordered or started. There is no call-out fee for the visit.

Call us on 01793 569330 or use the form at the top of the page to arrange a visit.

What the Work Covers

Herringbone and parquet floors are made up of small blocks, so the result depends on the set-out. We work out the pattern from the middle of the room so it runs straight and square, with even cuts at the edges. The blocks are usually glued to a flat, prepared subfloor, which is why the preparation matters more here than with any other floor. Get it right and a block floor will look good for a very long time.

  • Setting out the pattern square to the room
  • Subfloor preparation and levelling
  • Gluing blocks down onto a sound base
  • Cutting in neatly at walls, doorways and hearths
  • Sanding and finishing unfinished blocks
  • Lacquer, oil or hardwax oil to finish

FAQ - Herringbone and Parquet Installation

It takes longer, because every block is laid by hand and the set-out has to be right from the first row. That is why it is quoted separately from a standard plank floor.
Parquet is the general name for floors laid in a pattern of small blocks. Herringbone is one of the most popular patterns, with the blocks laid in a zigzag.
It needs to be flat and sound. Small blocks show every dip and hump, so we check the subfloor carefully and level it where needed before the blocks go down.
Often, yes. If you already have parquet under carpet or an old finish, restoring it can be a good alternative to a new floor, and parquet restoration is something we do as well.
Yes. The visit and the quote are free and there is no call-out fee.
